Migratory animals like elephants, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and buffalo gather at the Tarangire River in impressive numbers and as always, the predators follow. Also, the variety of species makes the park a bird-watchers paradise.

Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Activity: Morning game drives at Tarangire; drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Driving Distance: 3.5 hours

After breakfast you proceed for a game drive through the Tarangire National Park. With an area of 525 sq. miles, Tarangire provides endless opportunities to observe its abundance of wildlife including buffalos, elephants, lions and a vast number of antelopes. After lunch, you will transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy Area. The Ngorongoro Crater was formed millions of years ago by the collapse of a long extinct volcano. The resulting 100 square mile depression, surrounded by a 2000 foot volcanic rim, contains water and forage necessary to support most of the familiar African wildlife. Don’t be surprised to see Maasai herders and their livestock, especially on the crater rim; the Conservation Area protects both wildlife and Maasai.

Day 4: Full day crater tour and game viewing at Ngorongoro.

Accommodation:
The Manor at Ngorongoro
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Activity: Descend to the crater floor and enjoy a full day of game viewing and picnic lunch.

Today we spend the day on the crater floor viewing game; as many as 30,000 animals populate the crater. Lions, cheetahs, and jackals prey upon large herds of zebra, wildebeest, and antelope. The lake on the floor of the crater supports wading hippos and a myriad of bird life. Elephants are rare within the crater, though lone, non-breeding bulls roam the region, their great tusks reaching out before them. Arrange to visit a local Maasai village and see how this proud, resourceful people live in harmony with the animals.

Day 5: Drive to Serengeti; en route visit Olduvai Gorge.

Accommodation: Serengeti Migration Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Activity: Morning drive to Serengeti with game drives en route. Optional stop at Olduvai Gorge.
Driving Distance: 3 hours

After breakfast head for the seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti that open up across the horizon. These grasslands draw all manner of African game to graze - zebras, migrating wildebeests, antelope – and these animals in turn attract all manner of predators – lions, cheetahs, hyenas – that follow the great herds as they roam in search of water. We are pulled here as well, to witnesses the entire spectacle; the interconnection of land and wildlife, of predator and prey, to experience the circle of life, staged on the wide horizon. An optional stop en route is the Olduvai Gorge and museum and is the site where remains from prehistoric people were first found.

Day 6: Morning and afternoon game drives at Serengeti National Park.

Accommodation:
Serengeti Migration Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Activity: Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with breaks in between.

Except for a late summer and fall visit to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, the migrating wildebeest spend most of the year traversing the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year, the hundreds of thousands wildebeests accompanied by zebras and gazelles, follow the rain in search of fresh forage. A second day at Serengeti National Park puts most visitors on the track of the herd. Begin your day with a sumptuous champagne bush breakfast, or take an early morning game drive before a breakfast feast at the lodge.

Day 7: Morning and afternoon game drives at Serengeti National Park.

Accommodation: Serengeti Migration Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Activity: Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with breaks in between.
Optional: Visit a tribal village or nature walk (at cost).

Once again you will be able to experience game drives in the morning and in the afternoon. Both drives will give you great wildlife viewing opportunities. You will see large herds of local grazing animals going by, and also have a good chance of seeing some of the big cats. If you’re able to visit between January and March, you may be able to witness the Great Migration, when huge herds of Thomson’s gazelles, wildebeests and zebras return to the Serengeti as they give birth to their young.  It is an unforgettable experience that is not to be missed.  No matter when you visit, you will also have a chance to take a “walking safari”, or visit a local tribal village if you wish.  You will learn about the Maasai way of life and how they have managed to retain their semi-nomadic customs even in today’s modern world, when so much of their world is at risk.  After all these adventures, you will be more than ready for a mid-day nap, a dip in the pool or laze on the veranda to escape the heat of the day.

Day 8: Drive to Lobo Airstrip and fly to Arusha and drop off.

 Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast
Activity: Transfer to airstrip for your flight to Arusha and drop off.

You have the option to go on one last game-drive before dawn, with breakfast following the drive. The breakfast is a good time to say goodbye to your fellow travelers. You can take your time getting ready to leave; no one will rush you. You will be transferred to the nearby airstrip for your flight to Arusha. When you get to Arusha, if time allows you can spend some time shopping for souvenirs or taking in sights you didn't see when you arrived. Enjoy a complimentary farewell lunch in Arusha before you depart. As you head for home you will be leaving with a lot of fond memories of your Tanzania safari.
